It’s a reference to Symphony of the Night thanks to the blonde hair. In one of the animations, the Bot will check a clock, referencing how Dracula only returns from the dead every 100 years. Castlevania is a very important game, as it alongside Super Metroid helped establish the Metroidvania genre.

Astro’s Playroom Developer Working On A New 3d Action Game

Rather than using cartridges, the PSP is one of the only handhelds to use optical media for the task. UMDs weren’t just for games, as Sony released many movies and even a few TV shows on the format to be viewed on the handheld, most famously Spider-Man 2. The Buzz Controller is the peripheral designed for use with the Buzz! Series of trivia games for the PlayStation 2 and 3, with over eighteen games released between 2005 and 2010. The first PS3 Buzz, Quick TV, introduced a wireless version of the Buzz Controller.

However, the gameplay highlights in Astro’s Playroom are the special suits of the four areas. Take control of ASTRO and feel the world through your DualSense wireless controller. Every step you take, every jump you make and every enemy you defeat are expressed in ways never felt before thanks to new, cutting-edge vibration technology. Explore four worlds, each one showcasing innovative gameplay using the new and versatile features of the PS5 DualSense™ wireless controller. My favorite of them is GPU Jungle’s full robotic monkey suit, which leads to vertically-scrolling, 2D-view levels. Each of the four worlds in Astro’s Playroom contains at least one Special Bot waiting to be rescued.

Better graphics and faster load times are fine, but the subtle effects that are imparted via the controller are something new — and something wonderful. And Astro shows that while Sony might excel at realistic and sometimes dark games, it’s also very capable of making a title that young kids can enjoy. While it might not be as deep and rich a world as Super Mario Bros., Astro’s Playroom is a title that young and old can both enjoy. Once collected, these artifacts are sent back to the main hub of Astro’s Playroom, where you can run and bounce on giant-sized (yet photorealistic) versions of them. Astro’s Playroom is also, surprisingly, a true love letter to PlayStation history. TR88 of the game’s four main levels is littered with tiny nods to various PlayStation games, reenacted by adorable robots.

During the passage of the next levels of the game, you will come across a lot of bots. You can stop them in their tracks by attacking them with fists or lasers in your legs. You can also go through the levels from the start and collect the coins that are renewed there. Some children might feel frustrated with different game levels or obstacles.

As you explore its four distinct worlds, each themed around a key PS5 component, you’ll encounter a delightful array of robots and collectibles that pay homage to iconic PlayStation hardware and games. These trophies add a layer of creativity and exploration to the game‚ encouraging players to experiment with Astro’s abilities and interact with the environment in unconventional ways. Completing these challenges not only rewards trophies but also enhances the overall gameplay experience‚ making the journey to 100% completion both fun and rewarding. The fun is to explore locations, jump between platforms and perform simple puzzles.

In Astro’s Playroom, the adaptive triggers come up a lot, but the most obvious demonstration of them is when Astro hops into a spring suit. Once inside, the game turns into a side-scrolling platformer, as Astro is able to launch itself to the left or right using a giant spring in its legs. The illusion is incredible, making me feel way more connected to the events on screen than I would without this tension.

Some Special Bots require specific actions or interactions to be rescued. This might involve using the DualSense controller’s features, such as blowing into the microphone or using the touchpad to manipulate objects. [newline]Other Special Bots might require solving simple puzzles or completing platforming challenges. The DLC trophies serve as a testament to the ongoing support and commitment of the developers to enhance the Astro’s Playroom experience. By adding new content and challenges, the DLC trophies ensure that the game remains fresh and engaging for both new and veteran players alike.

The DualShock 3 was preceded by the original SIXAXIS controller, which lacked rumble motors and had a slightly transparent plastic shell. Because of this, early PS3 games lacked rumble, but several were retroactively patched to support the feature. The DualShock 3 released exactly one year after the PS3’s launch date. The DualShock 3 was the PS3’s main controller, and the first PlayStation controller to be wireless (well, sort of; see below). It swaped the Analog button for the Home button, and had convex triggers for L2 and R2.

This is the Ferox ship from Resogun, a 2013 launch title for the PS4 developed by Housemarque. It was one of the most well-received titles for the console, and a year later it would be ported to PS3 and PS Vita. Appropriately located in the rainy section that ends Gusty Gateway, next to a shelter you can find a Bot on the ground with an origami crane on him. This references 2010’s Heavy Rain on PS3, developed by Quantic Dream. In it, a serial killer known as the Origami Killer uses long periods of rain to drown his victims, and uses origami as his calling card. In the second mud pit of Gusty Gateway you’ll find a Bot carrying several crates while being surrounded by crabs.

There are areas where Astro must ascend while in a miniature rocket, and players must exert more effort pressing the adaptive triggers. This references Concrete Genie, a 2019 PS4 game developed by Pixelopus. The main character Ash uses a paint brush that can bring his creations to life. When you get to the very end of the level, you’ll land on a Sacred Symbols rainbow bridge. Turn around and run to the start of the bridge to see two bots at the title screen of “Bot of War”. This title screen references 2005’s God of War for the PS2, developed by SIE Santa Monica Studio.

If this happens a lot to you, try stepping back and observing the obstacles ahead. Study the movement of platforms, observe what enemies are up ahead, and plan your approach accordingly. As you get better at playing games, you’ll get better at being able to make things up as you go. As spotted by Twitter user realradec, Astro’s Playroom received an update for February 2025 that added the PS5 Pro as an artifact.
